It was 5 years ago when Natalie and I headed upstate for a wedding at The Kaaterskill.  I had met the future bride and groom just once, and they were very sweet, and I knew the wedding day was going to be memorable.  Upon arriving the night before for their rehearsal dinner and party, Natalie knew some of the guests and ended up knowing the bride Amy from middle school years ago!   That night was super laid back with toasts, singing, dancing, pizza, beer, wine, and a bonfire right outside.  Everyone could not wait for the next day to begin.

The wedding day started off a little cloudy, but ok.  Both Amy and Dave, along with the bridal party and some family, were getting ready in the same building on the grounds.  Everyone involved did a a great job making sure they did not see each other.  They did a first look with Amy coming over to Dave, and we still remember that moment well.  It was just perfect how they both reacted to seeing each other!   Rain was heading our way, but we got everything we needed to photograph before the rain started: family, bridal party, and of course the couple’s portraits.  Ceremony ended up being inside the barn due to the rain coming, but being that we shot everything beforehand meant that right after the ceremony, everyone involved with group photos can all head right to cocktail hour and start the party.

Many of the details of the day were hand made by family members, making the reception totally unique.  Inside the barn looked amazing, with string lights everywhere.  In fact, Natalie was shooting the whole night with just the available light.  We had so much fun that night, we still talk about it!  I’m not kidding- this was one of the best weddings we’ve ever witnessed.  It rained, the bottom of Amy’s dress was covered in mud, but no one cared because they knew it was not about that- it was about having the best day of their lives!  And I’m sure they did.  Today the couple now has a son, David, and a new little daughter Mae, and we wish them a very happy 5 year anniversary!
