Headshot Photography in the Hudson Valley

I’ve been lucky enough to have photographed some very interesting people these past few months for headshots: Dr. Roxanne Partridge of embodyperiod.com, a couple of aspiring actors, real estate guru Colin Seitz and his team at Remax, Blue Angel pilot John Decker, some of the regular yoga instructors at Sportsplex, a former bride of mine Christine and her colleague Jackie who run Global to Local, long time friend and personal chef Kristin Hatfield, financial planner Mike Pine from Mass Mutual, and my good friend James Gagliano a former FBI agent who is now on CNN Law Enforcement Analyst. Recently I’ve been mixing it up a little at the studio regarding lighting, for no reason other than staying on my toes.  I still of course use my signature style, and I cannot escape that nor do I want to.  But doing something different is exciting for me which only benefits my clients, and I’d like to share some of my recent work.  Thanks for checking it out, and if you follow me on Instagram, I try keep up with headshot stories and posts.

Hudson Valley Wedding Photography and Videography

It’s a girl!!!  Welcome the new addition to J.Ferrara Photography Inc: Taylor Del Villar weighing in at 100lbs and standing 5’2″  We’re very excited to announce that JFP is now offering wedding cinematography and other video needs, all in house.  The benefit of having both photography and video under an experienced studio is that we work together, share equipment, and help each other out.  We all plan out the wedding schedule and our needs, which only makes the day run smoother.  Here are some pics of us hanging out in studio with our main assistant Justin Soudant, and Court Jester too- he does entertain us!  You can find links to her work here: wedding cinematography  and we’ll be posting more to come.

Sweet 16 Party at The Darkroom

We’ve hosted quite a few Sweet 16 parties at the studio, but holy crap none of them like this!  If you know Cornwall, you should know Fiddlestix Cafe on Main St.  It’s a great place, and has amazing food and specials.  The owners’ daughter turned 16 this month, and she HAD to have the party at our studio we call The Darkroom.  The furniture is moved to the back so the kids can dance under the disco ball where the music is the loudest, and boy did they dance!  They also backflipped, cartwheeled, and backflipped again.  It was nuts!  They had the microphone in hand as if they were on stage, it really was a great time.  And a great mess to follow….  Here are the hits!

Hudson Valley Headshots

Just another update for the blog for the headshots I do here in studio.  Of course we do family portraits, a little product photography, but outside of weddings, I have to say that headshots is my studio specialty.  I have a look that I have been fine tuning for years now, and still do.  It’s perfect for any headshot needs: acting, modeling, business, corporate, social media, and even on line dating.  I have a make up artist on staff now, and packages that cover all bases.  Feel free to contact the studio for more info.  Thanks for checking this out!

Hudson Valley Corporate Headshots: Sportsplex

For years now I’ve been shooting headshots for the instructors at the amazing fitness complex Sportsplex in New Windsor.  They have it all: free weights, machines, yoga, spinning, tennis, camp, and awesome cafe with some of the best food around, and best of all a pool open year round.  I’ve been a member for over 10 years now, and I wouldn’t even think of going anywhere else.  Here are some recent pics, and click here to view some of the ones in the past.  Thanks!

Musician Headshots: Boom Boom Shake

I had another shoot with Elizabeth and Shane Chikeles of Boom Boom Shake and it’s always great having them in!  Fun, colorful, laid back, and these two are just the best in front of the camera.  Here are some of the hits!

Musician Headshots: Dean Scala

I really hope you all have heard of Dean Scala, who is one of the best musicians around.  We’ve known each other for about 15 years now, and first met when I was in a band and I’ve admired his work ever since. His last photo shoot was 10 years ago when I was at my first studio… we was way overdue.  If you would like to follow him, his facebook link is here, and thanks to Courtney Daly for helping out with Dean’s quite extensive wardrobe changes, and holding a light for me!  🙂

Headshot Session: The Two Year Old

Well, we all know how much the attention span is of a two year old, and this little guy is no exception.  I photographed him when he was one year old (link here), and he was so cute then, and he’s just even cuter now.   You can check out more crazy kid on my website as well.

Corporate Headshots: Johnson & Johnson

Just wanted to share some location corporate headshots Natalie and I did a couple weeks ago for Janssen, a Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical company.  We have the portable headshot studio thing down!  Set up and ready to go in 30 minutes.  Boom.  AND that’s with studio strobes not speedlites… to be technical. We had to drive down the night before and stay overnight due to our call time.  Well, in that area of NJ, we found a place called Freddy’s Tavern that was the ONLY place open on a Sunday night.  This place was great!  Home town local feel, great food, and Nicole tending a very big bar! The shoot day was laid back, no time restraints, and they let us do our thing.  Once word got out how happy everyone was with their headshot, more and more people came down.  We had under 30 people scheduled, and we photographed over 70.  Thank you so much Bonnie for contacting me, and here are just some of the staff… OH, and Nat with test faces.  🙂

Headshot Photography

I’ve been meaning to update my blog with some new headshot pics, and here they are!  Here at the JFP studio, headshots is the one thing we specialize in.  I always have a consultation before the shoot to make sure we’re all on the same page, and the client walks away with exactly what the need and more.  I love creating images that represent the person, and their career.  For anyone reading this that’s part of a corporation, I can’t stress enough how professional it looks to have headshot of your staff on your website.  For example, attorneys Drake Loeb came in randomly to my studio to update all their pics, and the final product looks great on their site.

2015 Holiday Card Special!!!

Holiday card season is upon us!!!  Same as last year, the special includes the shoot itself (color, B&W, groups, individuals, etc), upload to ShootProof for viewing, sharing, and ordering of any additional prints- and best of all: 50 totally custom made four sided 4×5 folded cards with envelopes or two sided 5×7’s.  The cards can have photos on every side, and I personally design each layout with or without text anywhere on the sides with whatever you want to say, and more cards can certainly be ordered.  The Holiday Card Special is $200, and they will definitely “wow” all your friends and family. To insure that the cards will be in your hands by the holidays, this special will run from now until December 10th.  Appointments can be made any weekdays, and Monday and Tuesday nights.  If you need a weekend, I have Sunday November 15th and possibly Saturday December 5th open.  A deposit is required for weekend appointments. Feel free to contact me with any questions, and if you would like to see examples of the card in person, there are many here in studio.  Thanks!

Studio Portrait Session: Mommy & Me for Mother’s Day

Yeah, I’m a little late posting this studio shoot  from Mother’s Day, but just wanted to share a very good special I did: Mommy and Me!  I’ll do this again next year, as well as other specials throughout the year.

Headshots!

I’ve been meaning to post another studio headshot blog, so here they are!  Featuring Gaz Regan, Andromeda, Andrew, and with the infamous pose that’s sweeping Cornwall- Kevin Kulic!  I personally want to thank Tom for his very flattering email, and I’m happy that my image helped him along the way to a promotion!

Product Photography Shoot with Stylo Furniture and Design

I’ve know Randy from Stylo since high school… He’s a good friend, and makes artwork disguised as furniture.  Our last shoot was two years ago, and his work just gets better and better…

Professional Photographers of America Magazine Article

PPA Magazine featured me in this month’s issue!  They asked me months ago if I would share my lighting style with them, and I was more than happy to.  Stephanie Boozer from PPA interviewed me extensively, and over the past few months edited down our talk to this article.  The magazine is featuring speakers for their annual convention in Nashville this year: Imaging USA.  I’ll be speaking on Sunday February 1st at the Gaylord Opryland, and I can’t wait!!!  Natalie will be running the table during the class with pamphlets I’ll be selling about my lighting style.  Thank you to Gary Hughes for helping me get on the list of speakers!  We can’t wait!!!!

Family Portrait Day! Cornwall Lee Road PTO Fund Raiser

Annette (who has 7 kids!- you just have to say that every time you say her name to someone new) and I have been debating how many of these we have done… and I forget the total.  We think this is the 8th year.  The first year she asked me to see if I would do a day of portraits for families attending Lee Rd school here in my home town for a discounted rate, with part of the proceeds going towards the PTO, and I jumped all over it.  It’s been a pleasure to see all these kids grow up over the years.  Here are the singles from this year:

Sweet 16 Party and Studio Portrait Shoot: Emily

A few weeks ago we hosted a Sweet 16 Party for Emily here at the studio and what a great night we all had!  Emily was totally the star of the night.  The kids danced, had mock drinks, the adults did not, and if anyone is thinking about a Sweet 16 party here at the studio, don’t hesitate, it’s an amazing space- that we may just call The Darkroom.  Here are highlights from the fashion shoot and the party itself:

Studio Portrait Session: Rose

After being diagnosed with cancer in May, Rose contemplated about a photo shoot to document this chapter in her life.  Well, after she lost her hair, she felt it was the perfect time!  Good for her!

Musician Headshots: Andrew Alfano

For those of you in the area, you HAVE to know Andrew.  He played in Nuts in a Blender and The Zoo.   Here are some of my favorites pics.
