Nadeen contacted me back in January to do a photo shoot at her house around the time she was turning 50. We talked a bit before the session about what she wanted to do, and it was all very vague- I barely knew what I was shooting when I left my house. So I brought my prime lenses, a wide, an external flash and headed over. She ended up needing a few environmental headshots for work, and wanted to play around with a few outfits she had for her upcoming 50th birthday party- which was taking place in a tent in her back yard. She had a slick dress, a mini skirt, funky boots, etc. We basically roamed around the house and a little outside. This was first for me- just doing a shoot for the hell of it with no real game plan. At one point I asked how big the party was, and she said, “it’s all dress in white party with dj, dancing, and caterer” I asked her if she had a photographer for this, and she said “no”. I was like “what!?!” I’m glad I convinced her to bring me. As my new assistant Victoria and I entered the tent, we were very impressed. I never saw a tent with a clear ceiling which really opened it up, even at night. The theme was white and gold, and yes everyone (including us) wore white. It was cold that night, but with the heater blasting the room was 72 in no time. The best party about these kinds of party is to see how people mix it up with wearing only white. Everyone looked great, we both truly felt like party of the family, and I’m very grateful I had the opportunity to be part of Nadeen’s 50th birthday party!
