Soyuzivka Heritage Center Wedding: Lorna + Harris: What a wedding- or should I day weddings! Lorna and Harris planned the weekend of their lives at the Soyuzivka Heritage Center. I first met the bride and groom to be in my studio a year ago, and when I heard what they had in mind, I was so excited. It planned to be unlike anything I’ve witness, and I was honored to capture it all. Their wedding is part Indian, American, Catholic, and Jewish- all in two days!
The Soyuzivka in Kerhonkson NY is Ukrainian owned and operated, and the entire staff is beyond friendly and helpful. The grounds are quite spread out with plenty of photo opportunities. The weekend started on Friday with a Roce ceremony, where bride and groom are anointed with a mixture of coconut milk, and then blessed… or should we say doused in milk. Immediately afterwards appeared a full double rainbow! The couple then changed (naturally) into traditional Indian attire. The rest of the night was non stop dancing- both choreographed and not. It was amazing!
Saturday started with preparation for both the bride and groom in their respected rooms, with the usual chaos. This time Lorna was in a traditional American wedding dress, Harris in a suit. We briefly left the grounds to attend the Catholic ceremony in New Paltz. Lorna had some trouble getting Harris’ ring on, everyone laughed, shot some family portraits, then back to Soyuzivka. From there, we shot some wedding portraits, then moved on to the Bedeken, Ketubah signing, and the Jewish ceremony itself. The Rabi and the entire crowd in the palm of his hands, making jokes along the way, but also being serious when need be.
The reception was nothing but an even bigger party from the night before! Congrats to this great couple who made an unforgettable weekend for all!
